God's Word

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17

"We can be an effective eraser in this world.

October 23, 2023

Good morning my brothers and sisters and God's grace be upon us all!

I was reminded of a story I heard the other day of a pencil and an eraser. The pencil had a mission to write beautiful, inspiring words on a piece of paper, while the eraser had a mission to rub out any mistakes. As the pencil wrote its mission with great passion, the eraser was ever so close behind in order to correct any mistakes.

In today’s devotional, let us consider the mission of the kingdom of God and how it is worthy of power and devotion. We are reminded in Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” In this scripture we see that the gospel is power; it is not merely a message, but a mission and a calling from our Lord. As we consider the kingdom of God, let us keep in mind three key ideas that will open our hearts and minds to this power.

First, the kingdom of God is a mission of hope and grace. In John 3:16 we are reminded that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This passage reminds us that the kingdom of God is one of mercy and grace, even in our darkest of days. We can be restored to our Heavenly Father through His love and hope.

Second, the kingdom of God is a mission of faith and obedience. As we read in Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” This scripture reminds us that we must have faith in order to seek out God’s kingdom. We must have faith in Him and His plan for us, and we must be obedient to His will in order to experience His power.

Third, the kingdom of God is a mission of service and love. As Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” This scripture reminds us that our mission is one of service and love. We must love our neighbors as ourselves and serve them as we would serve Christ Himself.

My friends, let us remember that the preaching of the kingdom of God is with power worthy of a divine mission. We must embrace this power with faith, hope, and love as we strive to be obedient to His will. Our mission is one of service and love, and together we can make a difference in this world for our Lord. As John 15:16 says: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” Let us go forth today with this mission in our hearts: to bear fruit for our Lord.

Today’s devotional reminds us that when we accept the power of God’s mission, we can be an effective eraser in this world—rubbing out suffering and mistakes with hope and grace.
