GOD'S WORD

"My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my

sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in

 the midst of thine heart."

Proverbs 4:20-21 KJV

"Don't let temporal wealth deceive you!"
November 22, 2023

Good morning, Brothers and Sisters! I want to tell you a story about a young man whose parents gave him a golden watch as a reward for all the hard work he had done in school. It was a beautiful and expensive piece of jewelry that he cherished for many years.

Today, I want to talk to you about Solomon’s riches. When Solomon became king of Israel, Queen Sheba presented him with 3,490,200.00 in gold plus precious stones, spices and other gifts. As we read in 1 Kings 10:14, “The weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was 666 talents,” amounting to 3,490,200.00 in gold.

Solomon’s riches are a reminder to us that material possessions are temporary and fleeting. We are reminded in Ecclesiastes 5:11, “When goods increase, they increase who eat them; and what profit have the owners but to see them with their eyes?” The Bible teaches us that our true riches come not from material things, but from the Lord (Proverbs 8:11).

We also learn from Solomon’s riches about the importance of generosity. Solomon was known for giving generously to those in need (2 Chronicles 1:15). He understood the importance of sharing what he had been given with others. We too should be generous with our resources and use them to honor God and bless others (Matthew 6:3-4).

Finally, Solomon’s riches remind us of the power of faithfulness. Despite all the wealth that he had been given, Solomon remained faithful to God and was blessed for his obedience (1 Kings 11:38). We too can experience God’s blessings when we remain faithful to Him, even in the face of great abundance (Proverbs 28:20).

Friends, don’t be fooled by the temporary allure of material possessions; true riches come from God alone. Let us be generous with our resources and remain faithful to God despite our abundance. As Joshua 1:8 says, “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Amen.

Friends, true riches come from faithfulness and obedience to God; don't let temporal wealth deceive you!
